Into the Basin

Day 84 – 7/15/13 – 30.9 mi (1460.3)

It’s not always scenic.

It was a long day of road walking. At least most of it was a dirt road. A seemingly neverending straight dirt road over gently rolling hills.

Last night we experienced the worst condensation of the entire trail…in the desert, go figure. I had puddles of water on my ground sheet and all our sleeping bags were soaked. We took advantage of a paved road and good sun during morning break to dry things out.

The water was nicely spaced: 16 miles to the first well, where we ate lunch, and another 14 to a reservoir where Ninja, Sweetfish, and I are camped. The others were planning to camp here as well, but as of 9:45pm, they have not yet arrived. I’m not sure if they’re hiking late or decided to stop short.

We have a couple more long days of walking like this. It’s really boring and though it seems like the miles should be easy, they don’t feel it. Maybe it’s the heat.
