Hikers go to Shopko

Day 83 – 7/14/13 – 12.2 mi (1429.4)

I must have slept well last night. I’m told someone’s alarm went off at 5:30am and someone mistakenly knocked on our door at 7:00. I remember none of this. We got our money’s worth out of the hotel at the continental breakfast where we hung out until late morning.

I had one item to pick up at the Shopko (like a KMart) next door. I made the mistake/great decision to go with LoveNote and Stryder. Dangerous. We spent much time looking at things we had no intention of buying, and then LoveNote and I ended up with new hiking leggings. It didn’t take much convincing to get Ninja to get a pair too. We are so ready for the Great Divide Basin!

Checkout time was noon and we loitered the hotel lobby until almost 2. Then we procrastinated with some more errands before finally starting to walk after 3pm. It was over a mile from the hotel back to the trail (and by trail I mean busy streets through town) where we left off yesterday, and it was really hot. Especially in black leggings. After several more miles of pavement through town and a couple miles on a 65mph highway and we finally got to turn off onto a dirt road. We hiked until sunset to get to a water source where Ninja and Sweetfish were stopped for the night as well. Most of us are cowboying tonight for the first time in weeks.
