Back on the trail!

Day 3
~4 miles
Road’s End to Lower Tent Meadow

I woke up to some serious soreness in my back, but different from the normal pain. Some quick googling seemed to indicate an initial “flare” after the shot was common and would go away after a day or two. I decided to just assume that would be the case and we made plans to get back on trail.

Bloodbank’s boyfriend kindly gave us a ride to the outskirts of town, where we stuck out our thumbs (and nice paper bag sign) and got a series of rides back to Road’s End. Again, had great hitching luck!

The glamorous life of hitchhiking

We lounged a bit at the trailhead, waiting out the worst heat of the day to begin the start of the SHR, a 6000’ climb.

The actual start of the SHR!

In the late afternoon, we had a decent bit of shade and it wasn’t too bad, though I felt like I was moving really slowly. We decided to take it easy and camp at 7500’. My back still doesn’t feel great, but it’s not so bad, and I feel optimistic that tomorrow I’ll wake up and the “flare” will have subsided and everything will be just fine.

View across the valley to be Sphinx and some other peaks
Well that’s a National Park deer if I ever saw one.

Ya, those NP deer are everywhere aren’t they!

Hoping to read tomorrows post with positive reports of back healing.
