Starting High

Day 1 – 6/29/17
6.4 miles
Horseshoe Meadows to High Lake (New Army Pass)

After we all converged in Lone Pine, LoveNote generously took us to the trailhead. And by we all, I mean myself, Dan, and Rockin. Change of plans! Snorkel ran into some scheduling conflicts and will join at the first resupply location, and the start of Steve Roper’s Sierra High Route at Road’s End. But, Rockin is joining for the first few days because it’s a route she’s always wanted to do! Yay!

LoveNote’s baby (and my Goddaughter), Juniper is ready for a hike!

So, loaded up in the Subaru with 4 adults, 3 packs, a baby and a dog, we headed to the Horseshoe Meadow trailheads. On the way, we saw 2 PCT hikers hitching to back up. We clearly had no room for them, but of course stopped at crammed them in anyway.

Pick ’em up!

We said goodbye to LoveNote (thank you!!!) and got on our way. It was a lovely day heading up trail towards New Army Pass. We encountered a few patches of snow, some flooded trail, and lots of mosquitos. We stopped just below the pass to camp for the night.
