Hurry up and Wait

Hornstrandir – Day 3 – 6/29/15 ~8 miles

I was tired enough to actually sleep through some of the endless tent flapping last night.  To make sure we reached our ferry in time we got a much earlier start today. We saw about 25ft of trail all day and actually had to break out the compass to make sure we headed the right direction across the open mesa atop the pass.

Naturally, with all the extra time we allowed we made our miles much more quickly than the other days.  It was also colder and windier than the other days. My feet were blocks of ice by the time we reached Hesteryi, the small cluster of private cabins where we were getting picked up.  We had about 4 hours to kill before the ferry arrived.

The houses in Hesteyri reminded me very much of the “farm set” model buildings my grandfather made.

Thankfully there was a little house that served coffee and crummy crepes where we were able to spend much of the time out of the wind.

Finally the shuttle to the ferry!
