Lima Bean Montana

Day 108 – 8/8/13 – 21.3 mi (1940.4)

We had many miles to go to get to town today but our motivation was strong. All the southbounders have been talking up the milkshakes in Lima (pronounced Lima bean).

The hiking was better for me today and I took only short breaks. When I got to the highway, Ninja and Sweetfish were ahead of me and LoveNote and Burly Whites behind. The Mountain View motel in Lima offers free rides from the trail for guests and we coordinated through text messages for those bringing up the rear to arrange the ride when they reached the highway.

The trail follows the highway for 3 miles and we all wanted to walk it today while our packs were light. I was about halfway done with these miles when a car pulled over on the interstate and Sweetfish stuck his head out the window telling me to get in. So I hopped the fence and got in. It was Mike from the motel with Sweetfish, Ninja, Flyby and Softwalker. We got to town and all went in on a good cheap room together with enough beds for all 7 of us.

LoveNote and Burly called me a couple hours later, unsuccessful at hitching from the interstate. I talked to Mike and he went out (17 miles one way) to fetch them. This is seriously one I the best motels on the trail for hikers!

We got our awesome milkshakes and spent the rest of the evening relaxing and watching an infomercial for Time-Life’s Power of Love cd collection.
