Hell Roaring Canyon

Day 106 – 8/6/13 – 26.3 mi (1891.3)

We said goodbye to our SOBO friends early this morning, then killed 5 more minutes taking a group photo on the front porch of the cabin we stayed in.

We were 2 miles south of where we’d walked yesterday, and were not about to repeat those 2 miles. Thankfully we got a hitch without too much trouble. We intended to do close to 30 miles day today to make up for our slacking yesterday, but we ended up with a lot of climbing which slowed us down some, and ran into another 5 southbounders for us to chat with.

The end of our Mack’s Inn alternate route went through Hell Roaring Canyon, which contains a spring that is the “most remote” source of the Missouri/Mississippi River. It wasn’t very exciting to see, but the rest of the scenery was nice. We are now back on the official CDT and up in the mountains again. We ended the day climbing up to the ridge of the divide, which also serves as the border between Idaho and Montana, so technically we may have already dipped into Montana a bit.
