Streak the Peak

Day 66 – 6/27/13 – 20.4 mi (1118.4)

There were two routes to Grays peak shown on our maps. A straight ascent up, or a slightly longer way that followed a ridgeline over a few other bumps. Rockin’ took the longer way and the rest of us opted for the shorter. When we got the the base of the steep ascent, Ninja and Sweetfish chose to go north up a bunch of loose talus to the ridgeline of Rockin’s route, while the rest of us went more directly up to the peak over more stable terrain and some snow. My party arrived first by about an hour, so I’ll go ahead and say we picked the correct way, though Rockin’ said her route was beautiful.

It was sunny and surprisingly warm on the summit of Grays, so we sunbathed for a while. With so much time to kill while waiting for the others and excellent cell service, we snatched up the domain name www.streakthepeak.com. Can you believe that wasn’t already taken?? I’ll let you use your imagination to figure out what else LoveNote, Stryder and I did.

After a couple hours on Grays peak, most of us made the quick side trip to neighboring Torreys Peak, just 570′ loss and gain.

We were tired from all the climbing and high elevation sun exposure, but put in the miles we needed in order to set us up for a quick trip into Fraser tomorrow to get groceries.
