Mt. Elbert

Day 59 – 6/20/13 – 18.9 mi (1026.8)

Sherpa’s a good man and drove us back to Twin Lakes very early this morning. We hiked out and took an alternate route to climb Mt. Elbert, the second highest peak in the lower 48 at 14,443′. It was a long climb, over 5000′ from where we started in Twin Lakes, but even with a full pack I didn’t think it was very difficult.

At the summit we found Wired, Rockin’ and Silly Chili. We played around taking silly photos for a while, but it was very windy and cold so we didn’t stay too long.

Sweetfish slack packed today and Ninja decided to hitch back to Leadville with him from the trailhead at bottom of Mt. Elbert. They’ll catch up sometime before Breckenridge. We met Mtn Rat on our way down Mt Elbert and ended up hiking the rest of the day with him. It’s a big group in camp tonight with LoveNote, Stryder, Wired, Rockin’, Silly Chili, and Mtn Rat.
