Hiker Mad Libs

Day 68 – 6/29/13 – 20.9 mi (1157.7)

We returned to the outhouse lobby this morning to eat the continental breakfast we’d packed out. Stryder ate an entire quart of yogurt.

It was threatening to rain most of the day but with only a few sprinkles actually falling on us. At lunchtime, ominous clouds over the peak we were about to ascend, putting us on an exposed ridge for the rest of the day, had us questioning the safety of continuing on. So LoveNote, Stryder and I lounged for a bit longer, hoping the sky would clear.

Instead we started to get rained on, so we packed up and left. In the end, the weather on the other side of the peak was better and we had a pretty good afternoon walking a ridge. The views were great. Our only suggestion for improvement to this section of trail would be to actually build a trail here. The route is well cairned, but walking on the angled slope with uneven rocks and grass tufts for miles is very tiring.

We’d planned on going a bit further, but when we caught up with Rockin’ and Silly Chili at Rollins Pass around 6:45 we weren’t too motivated to keep going. I’m having some problems with the skin on the bottoms of my feet rubbing raw to the point of bleeding, as if the skin is being worn too thin. Covering them completely in Leukotape seems to be the best solution I’ve found. This afternoon it was getting pretty painful so I was glad to stop.

Tonight in camp, LoveNote, Stryder, Silly Chili and I played a round of Hiker Mad Libs, complements of the care package I recieved in Twin Lakes from Seahorse, Chilidog, Daybreaker, and Sneaky Elf. They ingeniously made Mad Libs out of a couple of my CDT journal entries. It was hilarious! The one we did tonight was from Day 33, “Lessons in Yogi-ing”. I’ll share my favorite paragraph.

We planned to end the day near a town square at Hopewell Lake where our maps showed lightning. Wired and Sweetfish went ahead while the rest of us stopped for lightning. During the stop, I tested out Szechuan sauce as a leg waxing strip. This was a great way to kill 5 nanoseconds. All this went on while David Hasselhoff chatted us up.

Not sure, Ninja hiked on further.
