Unabomber

Day 130 – 8/30/13 – 26.7 mi (2381.3)

Burly’s shouting woke me up in the middle of the night. He was certain the cow walking nearby was a bear.

This morning was easy walking on dirt roads to reach Dana spring, last water for 14 miles. We’d seen photos and heard accounts from earlier in the summer about lots of dead rodents in this spring, which is just a tube sunk in the ground and covered with a lid. Thankfully, someone must have removed the rodents, because the only dead things in the water were bees and the water tasted fine.

There rest of the day was the typical Montana style up and down over every bump of the divide trail, but with the added delight of sporadic logging operations. At our afternoon water stop, Ninja and Sweetfish caught up to us. They took a different alternate yesterday and had been just slightly behind us all day.

We passed within just a few miles of Unabomber’s cabin, outside Lincoln, MT, our next trail town which we’ll reach tomorrow. We’ve begged Burly not to ask about him at the Post Office.

Around 6:30pm we got to our last water source before Roger’s Pass, 24 miles away, where we’ll hitch into Lincoln. The source ended up being a seep trickling so slowly, we had to use a leaf to funnel the water into a bottle. Burly, LoveNote and I assembly lined the operation to collect and filter the 15 liters we needed to get to town. All 5 of us are camped together, having hiked a couple more miles after the water before stopping for the night.
