Slag-A-Melt

Day 117 – 8/17/13 – 24 mi (2131.4)

Yesterday’s nice easy walking vanished quickly this morning, the terrain changing into steep climbs. Thankfully, the scenery also changed into beautiful rocky mountain faces, lakes and even some snow patches.

Most of the trail was still very good and there were lots of new sections…perhaps some still incomplete?

Ninja and Sweetfish got ahead early in the day and kept on trucking. They plan to get to town tomorrow night. LoveNote, Burly Whites and I are less motivated, feeling ok with waiting until Monday morning to get in. The steep climbs were tough on Burly today, so we stopped early to camp at a lake. He’s at the point where his reserves are gone and his body is starting to eat itself. Perhaps fortunately, in a couple days he will be getting off trail for nearly a week for his sister’s wedding in Ohio and will have opportunity to rest and refuel. To all his family reading this: make sure he is eating…a lot! If you see him and he’s not actively eating, hand him some food. And no carrot sticks! High calorie, high fat food only!
