Like a Blister in the Sun

Day 127 – 8/27/13 – 27.8 mi (2324.5)

Today we hiked a combination of CDT “proper,” CDT “classic,” and CDT “freestyle.” Lots of work to build new trail and/or reroute the trail has been done recently, and being the lazy hikers we are, we usually pick and choose the most direct routes we can. If there’s something scenically worthwhile, of course we’ll choose that, but today was more like a choice of clear cut 25 years ago or clear cut 5 years ago.

What we call the CDT “classic” is the old routing, much of which still has CDT markers and signs along it and is still good trail. The “freestyle” portion is when we go cross country or take some bit of jeep road to cut a corner. My best estimate is that we saved about 6 miles with our route choices today, wee!
