Shelter Cove

Day 117 – 8/22/11 – 25 miles (1917)

Today we walked around the Diamond Peak area, which we’d heard still had a lot of snow. It was certainly the most snow we’ve seen in a while, but not bad at all. The snow was mostly only a couple feet deep, and plenty of trail was visible between patches, making navigation no problem. We got the 20 miles to Shelter Cove in without breaking for lunch. At the resort, I picked up my next food box along with new sneakers and socks, and got some lunch from the general store: a big hot dog, an ice cream cookie sandwich, a bag of chips, a gigantic ice pop, a fudgesicle, milk duds, and 2 sodas. I was really craving some chocolate milk, but alas, the store had none.
After about 2 hours of resting and eating, we were back on the trail. At the highway crossing a mile later, we found some trail magic coolers containing, among other goodies, chocolate milk! The trail provides all!

There are lots of little lakes on this area, we are camped at a very nice one tonight (not the one in the picture)

Chocolate milk! (Yes, I am aware if how silly my hat looks)
