Bend

Day 121 – 8/26/11 – 4 miles (2007)

We made it to the highway around 8am, but after an hour without any luck sticking our thumbs out, we called up Catdog, a local trail angel. She happened to be on her way to the trail to drop off a cooler of magic and said she could take us to Sisters, though not all the way to Bend, as she was on her way to meet a friend to go hiking for the weekend. She made a few phone calls, trying to get us a ride from Sisters to Bend, but no luck. No big deal, we’d just stick our thumbs out again. But when we go to Sisters, Catdog just kept on driving, and took us all the way to our destination, the REI in Bend.

We did our shopping and got some lunch, then managed to successfully use the public bus system to get to the grocery store. Only after all these chores were done did we get a hotel room. The washing machine at the Days Inn was the best yet, and our clothes actually came out pretty clean!
We walked a few blocks to downtown Bend to have supper at Deshutes Brewery. I got to satisfy my craving for hipster food with fried chickpeas.
