Off trail

Day 76 – 7/12/11 – 18 miles (1048)

Rule #4 of the PCT: When the trail disappears under a pile of snow, it turns a minimum +/-90 degrees from it’s previous course.

If we hadn’t mistakenly ended up on a side trail, going at least 3 miles down steep hill before realizing we weren’t on the PCT and having to backtrack the whole way, we’d have had a very productive day. It still wasn’t bad considering the miles we’ve been doing most days lately. There is still plenty of snow, but with the lower elevation in this section bit lower (around 8000-9000 ft) and we are getting more stretches of visible trail. Hopefully tomorrow we can walk another 24 miles, but all on the PCT.

Ninja and I entertained ourselves throughout the afternoon with a medley of Disney songs and Broadway showtunes. Thankfully, no other hikers were within earshot at the time.
