Rae Lakes

Day 57 – 6/23/11 – 12 miles (804)

We slept in until 7am today! It was really nice to wake up and get ready with the sun shining. I’ve actually walked this section of trail before, in early October 2009. It certainly is a different hike this time. When I walked it the first time, there was no snow anywhere, and I never even had to get my feet wet to cross streams. Today, on the other hand, seemed like one giant stream crossing. Anytime we saw actual trail, it was covered in at least a couple inches of flowing water. There were several fast and hip deep crossings to contend with today. I guess this is the price we pay for having plentiful water in southern California.

We hoped to get over Pinchot pass (807) today, but our progress was just too slow. We will hopefully get and early start tomorrow and get over both Pinchot and Mather passes.
