Kearsarge Pass

Day 54 – 6/20/11 – 14 (6 PCT) miles (790)
It was a cold night, and I woke up to the entire inside of my tent wall covered in ice. Yay. But it’s ok, it’s town day!! We made much quicker progress today, following footsteps through the snow and at times actually seeing bare trail. We left the PCT at bullfrog lake trail and went out over Kearsarge Pass to the Onion Valley trailhead. It’s a beautiful section of trail, but I’m trying not to think about having to climb back up it with a full pack.

When we got the to trailhead, Uberbitch and Ken were there to offer rides to Independence. Four of us went with them, and the others in our group yogied a ride from some day hikers. In Independence, we took the hour bus ride to Bishop, where we all got rooms at the Motel 6 (they make you pay for shampoo nowadays!). We pigged out at a pizza joint and celebrated Twiggy’s birthday, and indulged in othe town treats, like ice cream bars and midnight McFlurry’s from the drive thru window. Yeah, this was a well earned town day.
