Desert Winds

Day 37 – 6/3/11 – 12 miles (558)

Near-o into Mojave! We were planning on hitching into Mojave and staying at the Motel 6. But as we were standing along the not very busy Oak Creek road, we met some other hikers who had slacked southbound miles 566-558, and were returning to Mojave via a ride from their hotel, the Best Western. Turns out they have a good hiker rate and provide rides to the trail. The htich was not looking easy, so we were interested. Once we found out there was a swimming pool, the decision was made. Oh, it’s called the ‘Desert Winds’ because there are windmills as far as the eye can see between here and Tehachapi.

Normally showers are first priority in town, but we hadn’t eaten lunch yet. Get ready for Drop and Roll vs. McDonald’s, round 2. I was smarter this time, opting for smaller portions. A cheesburger, 6 nuggets, medium fries, small Rolo McFlurry, small soda (refilled once), and a fruit and yogurt parfait. My digestive system faired much better this time around.

Then it was showers and laundry time. In true hiker trash form, KBomb did both at once.

Grocery shopping, and dinner at Denny’s. Service was up to Connie standards.
