Story of a camper

Day 13 (5/10/11) – 17 miles (179)

Last night brought hail and snow but little sleep. This one was not a happy camper.

We had camped a mile off trail, so it was a mile back uphill to start. It was cold and foggy, but the miserable night was suddenly forgotten when the spectacular ice and snow covered landscape came into view.

It ended up being a beautiful day, but the miles were tough today. It was mostly uphill, getting up to 8500 ft. We walked 20.5 miles total, though only 17 were on the PCT. We took the Devil’s Slide trail down into Idyllwild where we are spending the night and planning to zero tomorrow. We got an awesome cabin that we’re sharing with 6 other people. And of course, food!!
