Mt Thielsen

July 25, 2015

When I walked past Mt Thielsen on the PCT in 2011, I barely looked at the mountain because I was practically running to camp to beat a thunderstorm.  But I’ve always remember it and wanted to go back and climb it.

I was a bit nervous because I’d heard of people roping up for the final 80′ summit block, but I’d also heard of plenty free climbing it.  Turns out I needn’t have worried.  The worst part was easily all the loose scree approaching the summit block, dangerous because of all the other people around, potentially sending the loose rock flying.  I’d definitely wear a helmet next time. Otherwise, it was a just a fun little scramble!

Well, that’d scare the living daylights out of me! I have done some of that Class 3 stuff and I did not have fun. BTW, much better hat in this post!
